Toddlers (18-24 months) need lots of opportunities to learn how to play with one another, as well as attention and interaction from caring adults. Our toddler teachers listen and talk with each child and try to anticipate individual needs. Since children learn through playing and exploring, we provide them with a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day. Toddlers continue to make strides in small and large muscle skills, language, self-help, and social-emotional developement.
Daily classroom schedules include themed activities centered around special books, holidays or weather, and include directed gross motor play, tactile experimenting with play-doh or fingerpaint, music and dance. Teachers focus on building vocabulary skills, social development through cooperative play and practicing fine motor skills. In this class, students begin to venture outside the classroom to eat in the cafeteria, journey up the stairs for special events and take walks outside. Playground time is vital to a happy day, and toddlers have a chance to enjoy free play on their playground twice a day, weather permitting.
